Joint  Information Center Media Release

TRENTON, N.J. — Federal aid has been made available to the State of New Jersey to supplement the state and local emergency response efforts resulting from Hurricane Irene, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Christie Administration announced today.

“This assistance enhanced the State’s capability to respond quickly and put assets into place where they were needed to help New Jersey residents impacted by the storm,” Christie said. “It will also significantly lessen the financial burden this storm is taking on State, county, and municipal budgets.”

Under Title V of the Stafford Act, FEMA is authorized to provide appropriate assistance for required emergency measures authorized to save lives and to protect property and public health and safety, or to lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe in the designated areas.

FEMA will provide assistance for emergency protective measures, including direct federal assistance, which provides 75 percent federal funding.

William L. Vogel is the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in New Jersey.  Lt. Paul Miller is the State Coordinating Officer.
