The monthly meetings
are held on the third Wednesday of each month at the Town Hall/Municipal
Building beginning at 7:00 p.m. Please note: these meeting dates are subject
to change.
The Fredon Recreation
Commission meets monthly throughout the year to coordinate the town’s recreation
activities. We continue to improve the facilities at Lodestar Park. Our
pavilion continues to be a focal point for our park. Containing a full
kitchen and two full restrooms, it is used for township events and by our
sports organizations to raise money.
The Commission’s
volunteers have been working hard this year planning township events which
continue to be popular and well attended. The Commission is always looking
for new ideas for our community events.
The fall season
bring our annual fall festival/Halloween movie double feature. Residents
come out to pick pumpkins, enjoy refreshments an spend time with their
neighbors. Children, of all ages, have enjoyed our (age appropriate) Halloween
“spooktacular” double feature .
Ring in the festive
holiday season with our annual Tree Lighting ceremony at the Civic Center.
This event usually takes place the first Monday in December (this date
is subject to change). This event also brings an early sighting of the
Jolly Old Elf from the North Pole. Community members come out and enjoy
hot chocolate and other refreshments (free of charge) and listen to some
heart warming sing-a-longs. The Fredon Recreation Commission is working
on constructing our own, portable, ice skating rink for the 2010/2011 winter
season. Stay tuned for more information about this new event in the coming
fall months. We will begin our New Year with the ever-popular Easter Egg
hunt. This event will take place on Saturday March 27th, 2010. Easter Egg
relay races will begin at 10:40 a.m., and the Egg hunt will start at 11:00
a.m. Hop on down for some fantastic Easter Egg fun, and take a picture
with our very own Fredon Easter bunny.
Once the weather
gets warmer, the Commission will begin showing the movies “in the park”;
movies for children of all ages will be shown at dusk, and refreshments
will be sold for a small fee. This event will be advertised in the New
Jersey Herald, on the Township sign, and through the Fredon Township school.
The month of
May brings our town wide Fredon Day Festival. This year Fredon Day will
be held on Saturday May 22nd, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lodestar
Park, with a rain date of Sunday, May 23rd, 2010. There will be plenty
of games and activities for everyone. A pie eating contest, entertainment,
and our very own Miss Fredon 2010 contest. Any young woman, age 17-22 who
resides in Fredon is eligible to compete in the Miss Fredon contest. The
winner goes to the Queen of the fair competition. We are proud to say that
we have had several contestants go on to be crowned Queen of the Fair!
Save the date….and come out and join friends and neighbors for dinner in
the park! Bring a blanket, at dusk, we will be ending this fabulous day
with a movie “under the stars”. Other events that are currently being discussed
are bus trips to NYC events, or sporting events. Also, we hope to offer
discounted Hershey Park tickets to our residents this year. Please keep
an eye on our Fredon Recreation Commission web site, fredonrecreation.com,
for more information about upcoming Fredon Recreation Events.
Although many
thing that we handle the sports activities in the community, our actual
responsibility is to maintain and continue to improve Lodestar Park, and
provide community events as listed above. We do support our local youth
sports organizations through maintaining the fields at the park, and donating
to their organizations for needed items. We also provide a men’s basketball
program and a Fredon Ski Club.
