February 23, 2011

Chairman Coltelli called this regular meeting of the Fredon Recreation Commission to order at 7:00 p.m.

Attendance: Joe Coltelli, Jocelyn Keppler, Pete Klimek, Bob Wilson, Dave Greene, Doug White.

Absent: Steve Russell, Moira Kenah

Additional Attendees: Keith Smith

Minutes:  January 19th minutes needs to be amended;
Field Maintenance: ONLY grass seed was purchased, not fertilizer.

OLD BUSINESS:

Ice Rink: Being that there was a lot of snow this season, it hindered how often the rink was used. Tentative date for disassembly is March 12th  at 9:00 a.m. If not, then March 19th at the same time; depending on the weather.

Field Maintenance: The aerating will begin in the beginning of April when the irrigation system is turned on. Barry will be asked to mark the location of the sprinkler heads. Also, Nicole Scholier, coordinator of softball, informed the commission that she will be tilling (6-8 inches deep), re-grating and dragging the field sometime in mid March.

Home Run Fence Team: Mr. Russell suggested that next year a new sign deal should be implemented; “purchase a sign, sponsor a team, receive team giveaways”. Also, it was suggested that a sign should be displayed at the pavilion, listing all of the sponsors. Pending

Fredon Day 2011: The first meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 1st, at 7:00 p.m. at the Municipal building.

Movie Night: It was agreed to postpone the winter movie night until the spring, due to lack of interest.

Concert in the Park: This even is tentatively scheduled for June 17th. The commission will be hiring “ Street Hassle” to perform in Lodestar park from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 (9:45). The fire department has agree to sell beer/wine, and the recreation commission will be selling soda/water. John Pascal’s BBQ is one of the food possibilities; Mr. Klimek will confirm. The Sheriff’s department will be asked to bring over three (3) lights.  All Little League teams will be informed that there will be no games/practices that night. Janet Carsten’s will be asked to sell her snow cones. Pending.

Easter Egg Hunt: The egg hunt will take place on Sunday, April 10th, beginning at 11:30 a.m., after the pancake breakfast. Recreation members will arrive at 10:15 a.m. for set up. There will be pictures with the Easter bunny, the egg hunt, and possibly some games with prizes. It was also discussed that the smaller children should collect their eggs from the football/all purpose field (instead of the Little League field).

FREDON RECREATION LEAGUE REPORT/FINANICAL REPORT
No financial report this month.
Basketball reported the following:
Hampton, Stillwater, Fredon and Hardyston would like to organize an end of the season tournament. The tournament would be an extra cost of $400, but the children would be playing two more additional games this season. According to Mr. Constantino, the  numbers were low for coach volunteers, also the registration numbers were low with the basketball clinic. Aaron Copeman was recommended as a replacement coordinator, however Mr. Constantino added that he would stay on as coordinator with Aaron Copeman; thus easing his workload with basketball. It was suggested that basketball use the concession stand, or adding sponsors, to offset the cost of referees ($25 for 3rd/4th grade teams, $30 for 5th/6th grade teams).

Softball reported the following:
The registration deadline has  been extended. Playoff dates are the weekend of June 6th, 7th and 8th (double headers), and only six (6) teams advance to the playoffs. There is no senior team; two (2) rookie teams, two(2) intermediate teams, and one (1) junior team.

Soccer: Registration forms are coming in, the deadline is February 2nd, and Scott Lobban will be helping with the field preparation.

Budget discussions will begin in March.

NEW BUSINESS

Recreation Basketball: The Commission was informed of an incident that occurred at Fredon School involving two (2) coaches and a referee during a scrimmage. The two parties involved will be asked to give their statements about this incident. Also, the Recreation Commission will develop a mission statement (code of conduct) for all coaches to sign before the start of each season.

Bike Right: A non – profit company contacted Mr. Coltelli about having a bike rights/education/safety courses. Some of the topics that the residents will learn about are bike rights, defensive skills for biking and biking with confidence. The age groups for these courses are 5 years old to adult (advanced).

Protect Youth Sports: A representative from this company contacted the Recreation Commission about doing background checks for the coaches, at $10 per coach.

Spring Newsletter: Articles are due before March 21st. Some articles that will be submitted are: Easter Egg Hunt, Concert in the Park, Fredon Day 2011/Miss Fredon Contest, Movie under the stars, and the Fredon Recreation website. It was suggested that a small contact form be added to the newsletter for residents to fill out and send in, if they would like to be notified about any township news/events, etc. Pending.

FACILITIES USE APPROALS

1) Little League and the 9U Travel team facility use forms have been approved. Joe Befumo and Mike Grace will coordinate use of the filed and once agree will send in another form.
2) Softball Use forms are approved.
3) Fredon School Playground Committee submitted a request to use the Civic Center hallway on February 26th from 8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Approved.
4) Kittatinny Girls Youth Lacrosse Club requested use of the gym for skills practice on March 13th and March 20th, from 10a.m.  – 12 p.m. OR 8:00 a.m. – 10 a.m., depending on availability. Approved.
5) Kittatinny Youth Lacrosse would like to use the gym for their practices. This is approved based on availability, dates need to be checked with basketball.
 

There being nor further business before the Commission, Mr. Coltelli made a motion to adjourn at 8:45 p.m., with a second by Mr. Greene. All in favor. So moved.

March 16, 2011

Chairman Coltelli called this regular meeting of the Fredon Recreation Commission to order at 7:00 p.m.

Attendance: Joe Coltelli, Steve Russell, Jocelyn Keppler, Pete Klimek, Bob Wilson, Dave Greene, Perrin Masi, Anthony Thonnerieux, Doug White.

Minutes: February 23rd minutes to be amended; Mr. Russell’s sign suggestion should be moved under the Recreation League heading of the minutes.

Correspondence: The Commission received a brochure about free funding for fingerprinting/background checks for coaches, assistant coaches, etc. Mr. Wilson will find out more information about this service.

OLD BUSINESS

Ice skating rink:  The rink has been disassembled. There is a possibility of purchasing a new liner and brackets for next year. There were questions about how to remove the snow from the ice; one suggestion was to use a snow blower. Pending.

Field Maintenance: The pavilion water will be turned on before the egg hunt. The multi-purpose field will be aerated using vibration. The soil is very compact and it needs to be broken up. This is to begin the second week of April. The softball field will be tilled over the weekend of March 26th, weather permitting. Volunteers from Little League and 10U travel baseball maintain the Little League field.

Home Run Fence Team signs: Eighty-seven (87) renewal and new letters/forms have been sent out. A list will be made of all businesses that paid as the forms/payments are received.

Fredon Day 2011: The next meeting will take place on March 23rd, at 7:00 p.m. at the Municipal building. “Sandwich boards” will be used for advertisement. One side will advertise for Fredon Day and the other side will advertise for the concert in the park in June. Mr. Coltelli will look for different price quotes for renting tents.

Movie Night: The first movie in the park will take place at the closing of  Fredon day. The next one will possibly take place in July.

Concert in the Park:  John Pascal will be catering this event on Friday, June 17th. The fire department will sell adult beverages and the Recreation Commission will sell soda/water. Janet Carstens will be asked to sell snow cones and nuts.  The Sheriff’s department will be asked for the use of three lights as well as police presence.

Egg Hunt: This event will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 10th. Commission members will arrive at 10 a.m. for set up. Two hundred and fifty (250) chocolate bunnies were purchased, and the eggs have been ordered. Mr. Russell will set up the p.a. system and the fire department will bring the Easter Bunny.
Pictures with the Easter Bunny; A frame will be built, using a fabric canvas, for the backdrop, and flowers will be used as well. There will be games such as egg races with spoons (larger one for the older children, smaller spoons for the younger children). A registration form will also be available for any resident who would like to write down their email address for updates on Fredon Township.

Bike Rights: A non-profit organization from Cedar Knolls sent information about free bike classes to residents of all ages. Pending.

Protect Youth Sports: Pending

Basketball on Sunday:  More children are attending each week. There may be a possibility of having to split the gym; one side for the older kids and the other for younger children.

FREDON RECREATION LEAGUE REPORT/FINANCIAL REPORT

Softball has requested locks for the box by the field that stores the equipment. They are also looking for something to use to line the field. The softball play offs dates have bee changed due to a school event/trip. Game schedule are pending.
Soccer asked if they could use the all-purpose field on Saturdays. Soccer registration numbers are down this year from last year, and they are accepting registration forms from Stillwater residents who do not have a soccer team. Soccer will not be using the concession stand, and will begin the third or fourth week in April and will continue until June.
No report from Basketball.

FREDON RECREATION WEB SITE

Mr. Russell has updated the site with new information; the disassembly of the rink, the Easter Egg hunt and a thank you to the Fire Department. There is also a sponsor tab for the businesses that have Home Run Fence Team signs.

TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE/RECREATION LIAISON REPORT

Mr. Thonnerieux and Mr. White spoke about the budget, as well as the township taxes and the possibility of purchasing new snow plow trucks. There was also some discussion about solar panels being added for different township facilities, Civic Center/gym, Fredon School, Municipal building.

NEW BUSINESS

Kittatinny Travel baseball: A representative from travel baseball, David Bowe came to the meeting to discuss the use of the field.  Travel baseball will be allowed to use the field on Wednesday nights, and all day Sunday.
They would like to work with Little League and other baseball teams to organize use of the little league field; they can use the field on Saturday (either 3 p.m. or 6 p.m.) only if they can’t play on Sunday. This is pending.
 Travel baseball requested rolling of the infield, and grass/clay. The Commission informed them that the dugouts in the little league field are fenced in and other fences will be repaired.

FACILITY USE APPROVALS

1) The Bears Running Club requested use of the park plus the woods adjoining the park for the 5 K plus 1 mile Fun Run, on Sunday, April 10th, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Approved.

2) The Sussex County Department of Environmental and Public Health Services/Nursing has requested use of the Civic Center gym for a blood screening and bone density screening clinic on Tuesday, April 12th, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Approved.

3) Mrs. Scholier submitted a site modification request form for the softball field to dig up the field with a teter machine and re-grate the dirt about 6.8 inches deep.
      Approved.

4) Kittatinny Cougars Travel baseball submitted a request form for use of the Little League field starting March 2011 until October 31st, 2011; specifically Sundays, as well as Wednesdays and Saturday afternoons. (Use of field on Saturday afternoons only if they are unable to play on Sunday) Approved.

5) Stillwater- Fredon Little League requested use of the Little League field/pavilion concession stand, starting March 26th – July 30th, and then for Fall-ball, September 1st – October 31st, from Monday – Friday (with the exception of Wednesdays) from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., possibly 4:30 p.m. No use of Sundays, until Fall-ball begins. (10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.). Approved.
6) Fredon Township Girls softball requested use of the softball field from March 2011 – June 2011. Monday – Thursday from 4:30 – 8:00 p.m., and weekends (times T.B.A). Approved.

There being no further business before the Commission, Mr. Coltelli made a motion to adjourn at 8:40 p.m., with a second by Mr. Russell. All in favor. So moved.

Chairman Coltelli called this regular meeting of the Fredon Recreation Commission to order at 7:00 p.m.

OLD BUSINESS
• Field Maintenance: Aerating will begin on Friday, April 15th. Also, organic fertilizer will be added to the field before Fredon Day.  The all-purpose field will be seeded, if needed, after soccer season.

• Home Run Fence Team Signs:  A list, and a spreadsheet of all businesses (sponsors), which renewed or ordered a new sign will be composed.

• Fredon Day 2011: Next meeting is on Monday, April 18th at 7:00 p.m. at the Municipal building.

• Concert in the Park: Despite the conflict with Fredon School graduation, the concert will still be held on June 17th.  The existing stage is too small for the band. Therefore, the Commission members discussed constructing a two level stage (upper & lower), by either renting the materials needed or purchasing plywood.

• Easter Egg hunt: This event was fairly successful this year; numbers were lower than last year, due to conflicts. All left over chocolate bunnies were donated to the Manna House in Newton. The Recreation Commission members were extremely thankful, and grateful, to Camille Averella for the beautiful back drop that she painted for the Easter Bunny pictures.

• Bike rights: These classes can be organized at the earliest convenience, possibly in the fall season. Pending.

• “Protect Youth Sports”:  Pending
 

FREDON RECREATION LEAGUE REPORT/FINANCIAL REPORT

There was no meeting in April.
However, Mr. Russell stated that he deposited registrations from soccer and karate. Mr. Coltelli stated that peg bases were ordered at a cost of $400. Another set of bases will be ordered as soon as possible (to be deducted from the Recreation League account).
The Fredon Recreation Commission will purchase the new nail dragger.
Softball has two new sponsors ($250 each).

FREDON RECREATION COMMISSION FINANCIAL REPORT

The budget this year for the Commission is $16,200, with an additional $5,500 for Fredon Day.

TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE/RECREATION LIASION REPORT

- The bridge on Paulinskill Lake road now has a traffic light, due to repairs being done to the bridge.
- The bridge on Pewter Road is closed for repairs
On Thursday, April 14th, the Township Committee will have a second reading of the budget, and a representative from Fredon School will also attend to present their budget.

NEW BUSINESS

• Disclosure forms: Every member on the Commission must fill out this form as requested by Fredon Township.

• Proposed spending of fundraising money: Some suggestions are as follows:
1) An outdoor basketball court
2) New playground equipment, updating the current equipment.
3) Expanding the (wooded) paths in Lodestar. Or, add a fitness course to the park (grants may be available for this project). The Township has purchased more land for the park; therefore more trails can be added.
Tom Knultsky will be asked to attend the May Recreation Commission meeting to help draw up a new plan for Lodestar Park.

• Local Bands: Members discussed organizing a “Battle of the Bands” event in Lodestar Park. Local bands will be asked to come out and play. Pending

November/December 2011 Holiday bus trip to the Chrismas Spectacular at Radio City:
  The Commission has picked a date of Saturday, December 3rd, at 11:30 a.m for this event. The tentative cost of this trip, ticket + bus, would be $105.  This is pending.

FACILITES USE APPROVALS

1) Fredon Cub scouts submitted a use form to use the pavilion for their “rain gutter regatta/bbq”, on June 10th, from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Approved.

2) Fredon Elementary School submitted a use form for Lodestar park, all fields plus the pavilion), on June 1st from 5:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  This request has been approved with a stipulation, the water activities on the all-purpose field needs to be addressed before this event.

3) Bear Brook Coed softball requested use of the softball field on Wednesdays from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  This is pending, due to possible conflicts with the softball schedule.

4) Morris County Senior Soccer Assoc. requested use of the football/soccer field on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays’, from May 31st to July 31st.  Pending

5) KMFL requested use of the football/soccer field and the small soccer field from June 6th – June 10th(speed and agility) from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. and July 11th – July 12th   (football camp), from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Approved.
• If there is a conflict with soccer, KMFL will move to a different section of the     park.

Chairman Coltelli called this regular meeting of the Fredon Recreation Commission to order at 7:00 p.m.

Minutes: April 13th, 2011 minutes approved as read.

Correspondence:  The Recreation Commission received a thank you letter from the Manna House for the chocolate bunnies that we donated to them after the egg hunt.

OLD BUSINESS

Field Maintenance:  Corn gluten has been added to the field, and will be seeded when the fields are closed.

Home Run Fence Team signs: All signs have been put up. It was suggested that companies that wish to have (new) signs made up should stipulate what their sign should
look like.

Fredon Day 2011: The tents for Fredon Day will be put up on Friday, May 20th, at 10:00 a.m. A schedule of events was written up for the day; beginning at 4:00 p.m. (4:15) with the introductions.  The Commission members reviewed the “to-do’ list for Fredon Day and divided the jobs amongst members and volunteers.

Concert in the Park: This event is scheduled to take place on Friday, June 17th, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Advertising needs to be increased and additional staging will be added for the band.

Protect Youth Sports:  This topic will be discussed at the next Recreation league meeting. Pending.

2011 Holiday Bus trip; Christmas Spectacular: The date of this event will be on Sunday, December 4th. The price of the ticket will include theatre seating plus bus ride to/from Manhattan. One ticket will be raffled off during Fredon Day.

Fundraising Money: Mr. Coltelli will speak with Tom Knultelsky about prices for either a new field or basketball court. Pending.

FREDON RECREATION LEAGUE REPORT/FINANCIAL REPORT

• $7,000 in account.

SOFTBALL
• Other softball teams have been using the field at night.
• Due to lack of storage space, the softball equipment might have to be stored in the upstairs room of the fire department.
• Many compliments on the softball field this season.
• Rec. League should not purchase any lime, Nicole has extra bags at her home.
• All registration fees and sponsor fees are paid, uniforms are paid for and all umpired fees for the regular season have been paid. There is extra money for the umpires for future games; this does not include umpire fees for playoffs.
• The storage box needs to be locked on the field. (June 16th)
• Mrs. Scholier requested a key for the shed at the Civic Center.
• Possible summer softball clinic over the summer for a small fee. Girls can work on their skills and improve on any weaknesses. Pending.

       SOCCER
• Soccer registration deadline is July 15th – August 1st.  If someone sends his or her form in late the child will be put on a “stand by” list. If another team can be formed then the registration will be accepted, if not the form is returned.
• 65 children registered this season; pre-k – 2nd grade.
• Possible soccer camp; using a trainer again.
• Trophies were ordered.
• Charlie Templeton will be coordinating soccer next season.

BASKETBALL

Mr. Klimek provided the Recreation members with an itemized budget report for 2011; including items such as holiday/community events and field maintenance.

NEW BUSINESS

• Kittatinny Wrestling Alumni: This organization would like to have an alumni dinner on August 13th in the Civic Center; however there is no air conditioning in the Civic Center.
• Edward Hammond: Mr. Hammond is a resident from Stillwater. He attended the Recreation Commission meeting on behalf of “The King and his Court”; the original four (4) Man Exhibition Team. This team goes around to different communities entertaining audiences with their softball skills. Mr. Hammond asked if the Commission would consider having this team come to Fredon and play/entertain the many families in this town, as well as from other towns.

FACILITIES USE APPROVALS

• Kittatinny Youth Girls Lacrosse – Use of the football/soccer field, and the pavilion on Monday – Thursday, July 25th – 28th from 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Approved.

• Sussex County Department of Environmental and Public Health Services – Use of the Civic Center and the kitchen on October 1st, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  for a flu clinic.
Approved.

• Sussex Hawks AAU Basketball ; Use of the Civic Center on May 22nd, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Basketball tryouts, practices, games.
Approved.

• KMFL Competition Cheerleading; Use of the Civic Center from July 18th, 2011 – December 1st, 2011 from 6:30 – 8:00, for practices.
Pending.  Will be contacted about the Civic Center fees for non-Fredon participants.

• Kittatinny Lacrosse; Use of football/soccer field, volleyball court, pavilion for end of year picnic on Sunday, June 12, 2011, from 1:00 pm. – 5:00 p.m.

Chairman Coltelli called this regular meeting of the Fredon Recreation Commission to order at 7:30 p.m.

Correspondence: None. However, the Commission did thank the Township Committee for the Clean Communities money.

OLD BUSINESS

• Field Maintenance:  Due to heavy use, the field needs to be properly maintained as soon as possible. Tony Cerbo will come to the park and maintain the field.

• Fredon Day 2011:  The Commission received many compliments on the day and agreed that it was a good choice not to show the movie afterwards, due to the weather.

• Concert in the Park: An additional stage will be built Thursday, June 16th. Also, the area will be marked where the other stage should be placed, and necessary areas will be roped off. A generator will also be used. The Commission will sell bottle of water and cans of soda. The Fire Police will help with parking.

• November/December Holiday Bus Trip: This event is scheduled for Sunday, December 4th. The cost of the ticket (bus + show) is $105.00 per ticket.  Pending.

• Budget Money:  The Commission discussed adding a basketball court to Lodestar Park. Mr. Coltelli received price quotes from Mr.Knutelsky; the estimated/projected cost for a six (6)-basket court, 84 x 50 with a five (5) foot boarder would be $27,800. However, the price could be lowered once the job goes out for bid. There was also discussion on ways to bring in additional funds to help with the cost of this project, e.g. state grants. Pending.

NEW BUSINESS

• Girl’s softball: Nicole Scholier: Mrs. Scholier thanks the Commission for their help during the softball season. She also stated that the softball field received many compliments throughout the season. She also discussed the softball clinic, which is expected to begin in mid-July and run for two (2) to three (3) weeks. The cost per child would be $35 and the time would be either 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. or 2:00  .m. – 4:00 p.m.

• Keys from Past members:  After the winter season, the locks in the pavilion will be changed and there will be a limit to who receives new keys.

• Informing organizations of their facility use status:  Mr. Coltelli will contact organizations that have submitted facility use forms, whether or not their application was approved or denied/pending.  Also, the Commission would like to stress that when a person/organization would like to request use of the facilities or participation in an event, they must wait until the next Recreation Commission meeting for proper approval.

FACILITIES USE FORMS

• Kittatinny Cheerleading Squad: Requested use of the gym on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. However, the Commission discussed a tentative offer of 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with more time after August. The fee will be collected before use and the Commission requested to see the roster for the number of Fredon residents who are participating.  Pending approval.

• Summer Basketball: Requested use of the gym on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m.  Approved.

• Kittatinny Midget Football Pep Rally: Requested use of the pavilion as well as the football/soccer field on August 27th, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (rain date August 28th). Pending approval.  The Commission would like to invite some members of their board to the July Recreation Commission meeting to discuss last year’s pep rally issues.

Correspondence: The Commission received an approval letter from Fredon Board of Education, for use of the parking lot (additional parking) during the concert in the park.

OLD BUSINESS

• Field Maintenance: The fields will be sprayed with weed killer over the July 24th weekend (or 2nd weekend in August). Nitrogen fertilizer will also be added to the fields. The fields may not be used after application. No sprinklers.

• Concert in the park: A successful event. Street Hassle is booked, tentatively, for June 2012. More advertisement and band information is planned for the concert in 2012.

• December 2011 Holiday Bus Trip (Christmas Spectacular): Tickets have arrived. Advertisement for this event to begin as soon as possible.

• Recreation Budget Money:  Pending.

FREDON RECREATION LEAGUE REPORT/FINANCIAL REPORT

Soccer registration forms are doe August 1st. So far, 10 –15 children have signed up for the fall season. More is expected. The soccer registration form will be added the Fredon Recreation web site, and the equipment will be stored in the Civic Center.

• Tierney Veliz Fundraiser/Movie Night: Possible joint event with the Fredon Fire Department. Movie and dinner in the park, all proceeds to go to the Veliz family. Tentatively planned for the end of August/beginning of September.

• Trophey Case:  A trophy case will be built and placed in the Civic Center, to display team trophies, community pictures and Recreation information/announcements. Pending.

• Kittatinny Pep Rally: Mr. Brook and Mr. Brown attended the meeting on behalf of KMFL to discuss issues from last year’s event. To avoid these same issues, they will have to inform parents of the restrictions in the park, and if needed there should be consequences. Also, the November 18th/19th KMFL Championship games were discussed. Possibly waiting an extra week before winterizing the Pavillion. If not, then turn the water back on for the games.
Possible one-way traffic, enter in Lodestar and exit at the Civic Center. Pending.

FACILITES USE APPROVALS

• Kittatinny Wrestling Reunion: August 13th, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. in the gym has been approved.

• Kittatinny Pep Rally: Approved.

• Softball Camp/Nicole Schoelier: Use of softball field from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., July 11th, 14th, 18th, 21st, 25th, & 28th.  Approved.

Minutes:  Amended August 17th meeting minutes; Travel soccer facility use request was not approved by the Commission, it was pending until space becomes available.

OLD BUSINESS

• Tierney Veliz Fundraiser:
• Parking – At Lodestar Park, Fredon Township School, Civic Center. St. Paul’s Abbey is providing a wagon to transport people to and from Fredon School. Taryn Peppo will be the volunteer coordinator for parking and security as well as trash collection.

• State Police will be present throughout this event, as well as six (6) retired and off duty police officers.

• John Richardson has arranged for three (3) lights from the Sheriff’s department to be brought over to the park.

• Joe Pepe will set up the electric for the bands.

• Tri-State Rental and Party World will be donating tents. All tents are to be set up, around the softball field, on Friday.

• The stage will have covering if it should rain.

• State Rental is donating the Bounce House and will have 2 adult volunteers.

• There will be no movie during, or after, this event.

• Band members will drive along the walking trail to their spot, drop off their equipment and remove vehicles.

• Fire Department will set up by the backstop are; fence in the area and will require I.D. to enter. No been is to leave the fenced in area.

• Everything will be taken down, possibly, on Sunday. If not then definitely by Monday.

• Pavillion kitchen will not be used.

• There is no rain date.

• No coolers or outside food.

• Monitors will be at the park entrance and the Civic center entrance to the park (by the hill).

• Possible bug spraying two (2) days prior to the event; check with Township Committee for approval.

• Handicap Parking; Possibly on the side of the small soccer field.

• Vendors will set up along the first base line.
 

Field Maintenance: The all – purpose field has been fertilized. There is a possibility that the field will be  (plug) aerated before the end of the year. Seed has been purchased and fall seeding is also possible.

Fall Event with Fire Department: There was brief discussion about doing a spaghetti dinner and movie night with the Fire Department on October 14th. Pending.

Use of Recreation budget money: Other suggestions are: extending the pavilion and a hiking trail on the extra land. Pending

December 2011 bus trip/Christmas Spectacular:  More advertising needs to be done. Pending

Trophy Case:  A sketch is to be drawn up and send to the Commission for review. Pending.

FREDON RECREATION LEAGUE REPORT
• Soccer has eighty (80) children registered, and seven (7) teams. Charlie Templeton will be informed that he can store equipment, e.g. soccer balls, upstairs in the Civic Center.
• Basketball – registration forms will be sent out in October.
• Softball – equipment should be stored in the shed.

FREDON RECREATION COMMISSION FINANCIAL REPORT

Mr. Klimek provided members with an updated financial report. One topic of concern was the water drainage issue in/around the pavilion and the cost to repair.

TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE/RECREATION LIAISON REPORT

Mr. White stated that the Township Committee had some insurance concerns with the bands that are attending the fundraiser.  He also said that he would talk to the other Committee members about the addition of a new basketball court in the park.

NEW BUSINESS

• Stillwater/Fredon Little League:  There was concern over field use. However, this issue has been resolved.

• Ice Skating Rink: The Commission will be purchasing a new liner for the rink. As well as four (4) “L” brackets, which were broken, and six (6) corner brackets. Construction will take place as soon as possible.

• KMFL Practice Request: Due to the continuous rain, Veteran’s field was flooded. KMFL would like to use Lodestar Park as an interim place to practice. When the time changes, lights will be used.

OLD BUSINESS

• Use of Recreation Budget Money:  Township engineer, Tom Knutelsky, was asked to draw up a budget proposal for construction of a basketball court in Lodestar Park. Based upon review, the probable cost, which would include survey, base map, design, bid documents, construction support, layout, and inspection, would be $7,150. There was discussion about applying for a Green Acres Grant to help off set the cost of this project. Pending.

• Field Maintenance:  Maintenance was done on the field by the ice skating rink, and topsoil was added to the football field. Possible seeding in the winter, definite seeding in the spring.

• Ice Skating Rink:  The rink has been constructed and water has been added, however, it cannot be used until the water fully freezes. Pending.

• Christmas Tree Lighting:  Besides some electrical issues with the tree, this event went well. The numbers (of people) weren’t too high this year, possibly because of the weather, but those who did attend enjoyed spending time with other community members and Santa & Miss Fredon.

FREDON RECREATION LEAGUE REPORT/FINANCIAL REPORT

Basketball will be using the concession stand this season. Uniforms have been ordered and referees will be booked; there are seventy (70) games total. Equipment has been ordered Background checks will begin as soon as possible.
The softball has not been tilled yet. Pending. Registration forms will go out within the month or two.

FREDON RECREATION COMMISSION FINANCIAL REPORT

Commission treasurer, Mr. Klimek, provided members with an updated financial report. This report includes spending on holiday events, community events, field maintenance, park equipment; as well as money earned through fundraising. A topic of concern is thinking of ways to fix the water drainage near the pavilion (the hill leading from the pavilion to the playground); there is a lot of water spilling into the pavilion. Pending.
